Default Hopeful Owner with some Q's

I am wanting to purchase an 01 A4 1.8TQ in my area and had a few general questions I couldn't find within the search and FAQ's. I know in general cars are reliable if you take care of them. However, how are the transmissions in the A4's? I know wrx's are notorious for blowing their tranny, even though a large part is probably user error with people doing high RPM clutch drops. Looking for a car to get up to the mountaints and this A4 seems like the perfect candidate and the price is right. Random but how much do the stock wheels weigh? This is the style I'm referring to:

Are there any carb legal exhausts for the A4? I live in CA and smog laws are harsh. Appreciate the help in advance. Really liking the car when I test drove it but had a few Q's on it and trying to do it all the right way.

im pretty sure the manual trannys are pretty good and you can get a lot of horsepower out of them. the tip trannys are a little weaker and are good until 300hp. the audi is a great option for hill driving. the 01 is a good year i guess? im dont really know the goodness differences between the b5 model years. i think that stock rims are heaver than rims you can buy, i dont know specifics.

i live in CA and in san rafael, and i passes the smog check and everything, so you should be okay.
