Short back story:

Wife was driving our 2002 A4 Quattro V6 when the low oil notification came on. She ignored it and got about 3 miles down the road with the engine quit. Turns out there was a hole in the oil pan and ran it out of oil. I started the car to see if it was seized or not and it started up but with a lot of noise and knocking. Got it towed back to the house where I put in a new oil pan and filled it up with oil. Started up again and there's still heavy knocking noises.

I'm a bit concerned that my engine may be toast. Any thoughts or prelim diagnosis would be a huge help, thanks!
