HOw do u know if the A/C's compressor clutch is engaged?

HOw do u know if the A/C's compressor clutch is engaged?
HOw do i determine if the A/C clutch is engaged? I need to do this to checked the pressure of my A/C to see if the system needs more stuff. The first attempted i dont think did anything so i cam to the conclusion that the A/C clutch might not be engaging.

Once the A/C is turned on, look at the compressor. The end of the compressor will spin when engaged and when not engaged it will not spin. The pulley part always spins when the car is running but the part on the very end of the pulley only spins when A/C is on.

where exactly is the compressor on a B5? I looked for it but i see alot of things that spin. Is there a way to turn teh clutch on like on the A/C controls?
