Default How to get rid of the CEL?

The CEL is on ever since I brought the car about two years ago, it's related to emission problem, however, the car is running fine, and I do not want to pay over 2k for fix it.

I need to do a smog check soon, how do you turn it off? I tried with the OBDII device, however, it always come back on after minutes. I need to get rid the light until I pass the smog check test.

Thanks

Fix the car If it comes back on aftera few minutes its probably a pretty hard core leak of an SAP system or EVAP system. Do you have any fault codes to post?

If you resolve the issue the codes should clear themselves after a certain amount of driving time.

ah the joys of owning an Audi. I've ust gotten used to the little orange light on m dash (it's on cuz of an EGR valve problem and one of my cats is bad but since I don't have emissions I'm not gonna fix it.)

I'd just fix it, it'll just keep poping back on until you do.

i would fix the egr and do tp's if you don't have emissions........

and yeah, you might be able to clear the code, but they are stored.......... the emissions software will know that there is a code hidden in there, even if the light is off

funniest thing i ever saw when i used to test emissions, was a guy put electrical tape in front of it to hide the light..... he said it annoyed him...... i think he thought we were stupid and wouldn't see it.......lol

I see the electrical tape trick all the time, I guess some people don't know that the light was put there for a reason other than to annoy you.
