I was just wondering how many of you guys have changed your own atf using:

My tranny is slipping and I dont want to pay someone to change it for me if that turns out not to be the problem. Its slips halfway thru 2nd and halfway thru third and if I stop really fast it will like.. lag to catch up to 1st gear then buck when it gets there. Do you guys think changing the fluid will help? If not any other ideas?
Its a 99 A4 Quattro w/ Tip.
After I get this all sorted out, how much power will these trannys take before they give? Can you chip them with no probems? Thanks!

If its slipping thats usually bad.. New fluid might help, but wont cure whats making it slip im sure... If you have too much fluid in there it can slip, but i doubt thats the case. Chip should be no problem.. I think they can "reliably" handle towards 250 hp or so. How many miles are on your car?
RE: How many of you have changed your own atf?
you need the book on transmissions for setting the traction bands/clutch bands but change the fluid and filter it could make the difference seeing as its in its early stages of fail
It has 133k on it right now. Where do I get this book you speak of?

Yeah, i'm also interested in this for basically keeping my car healthy and running well. I have basically the same car as you classic079 so post again on this forum when you're done so I know how it went!
The thing is, I wanna know whats wrong with the car before I spend 100+ on something that sgoing to come right out anyway if its not going to help.

im having a similar problem... It feels as if the car starts in 2nd gear skipping 1st gear.... but sometimes my reverse gear does not work.. and also my dashboard has all the gears lit up at all times instead of one gear at a time... It seems like an electrical problem maybe the ecu or somethin.... I have a 1997 Audi A4 1.8t auto.. If you get it fixed repost so I can also fix the problem and ill do the same for you.....
