my engine is well on its way to throwing a rod, does anyone know what it'd cost to have my motor rebuilt? should i do the rebuild myself (im not bad with a wrench)? buy a new engine?
any insight is appreciated, especially if you've been in my shoes

How many miles on your engine? How do you know it's about to throw a rod? I suggest getting a rebuild with HC pistons, and a few other goodies, but I'm not sure on your budget...

bout 108K but i dont see why that matters. i had too much fun, car leaked oil, dad wouldnt buy oil and i drove it while dry. now the engine knocks which means a few more miles and i'd have a hole in the hood of my baby. i just need to know the cheapest route to get it back on the road.. not planning on modding it since its a 2.8 12v. im scared to call the stealership and ask how much for their work

Seriously though I have no idea how much it would cost to rebuild a 12v. I would have just changed the oil. On that note, why do you have to wait for your dad to buy your oil? Just buy it yourself and get them to reimburse you for the expenses.

You can go to a junkyard and get a used 12v. I saw on ebay a fully rebuilt long block for about 2 grand shipped...
Maybe this would be a good candidate for a 2.7t/1.8t swap...

How is it that you can afford a rebuild but not $2 for a quart of oil? That is the lamest excuse, blaming your dad. If you are driving it, its your responsibility. Does you dad go put gas in it for you too. Does he wipe your a$$ everytime you make a doody in your undershorts.
