How much should i be paying for a drop?
Hey there,
Chris here, brand new to the audi world. Just got me a nice shiny Black '97 A4, 2.8 Quattro. Hooray for me!!
Anyway, the few things i want to do include dropping the car with either Eibach or H&R springs. However, these only come to mind cuz those are the only ones i've heard of. So my question is this...
How much should i be looking to pay to get my car dropped?! (got quoted $800 in Newport Beach, CA and that seemed a bit extreme, is this normal pricing?)
Also, do i need more than just springs to drop my car successfully?
Also, is there better springs i should be looking at? Or Eibach and/or H&R pretty solid?
Thanks all. (oh , also, check out my post about stereo integration...)

If the 800 included an install then that price is pretty good price - depending on what system you go with.
I currently run Bilstein sport shocks with Neuspeed Race springs. Total ran me about $750, and I installed it myself. If you want a single coilover unit it will be more expensive.
You can use aftermarket springs with stock "sport" shocks, but I would not suggest it. Just as well to go all the way and get new shocks (Koni, Bilstein, etc). The stock sport shocks won't last a long time with aftermarket springs on the car.
Common combinations are
- Bilstein shocks/H&R springs
- Koni shocks / Eibach or Intrax springs
- Koni Coilovers
- H&R coilovers
