I have been quoted a price of $500-$550 to change the timing belt, and about $625 (from memory) to change the spark plugsby my local VW/Audi specials. Where are you based? I would be only too happy to pass on his contact details and for you to give him a call. I know they are good people and will not rip you off, we got his name a number from friends of ours who have been sending their VW Passat to him for years.
let me know if this would help.
James

I am in Lancaster PA so the shop would be a little far for you to come.

1000 to 1200 is what everyone is charging these days. For $1200 I would make sure that include roller, tensioners, water pump, thermostat, etc......

My dealer quoted me $2600 for timing belt service. Though, I am still 25,000 miles away from it, but when the time will come, I will get it done from the dealer...as I have extended warranty, and I don't want to give any reason to the Dealer/Audi that something is not covered because my timingbelt service was done elsewher, also, because my Saab was screwed up and converted into total junk because of the non-dealer service.

However, if you know the place well and pretty sure that they have done Audis before...then go for it.

This is an interesting subject. But FYI, a dealer canNOT deny warranty, just because you got something serviced by someone else, unless they prove and confirm that the non-dealer service was the cause of the failure. They can sort of give you hard time about it, but unless they prove it, they can't deny you. It is based on Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

As for $2600 for timing belt service, I think they are charging too much. I got a quote from a dealer before I did mine on my own, and it was about $1600. It included rollers and tensioner, but did not include cam and crank seals. I would get another quote from another dealer.

Agreed, but Audi of USA gets very difficult when they know that major services were not done at teh appointed dealers.

Hmm..., 1600 sounds better, of course. I will check with another dealer in Maryland.
