How to get to the fuel filler cap servo / solenoid ?
My B8's saloon's fuel filler cap does not lock and VCDS tells me this fault (02616 - short to ground) first occurred 2 weeks ago.

How do I get access to the servo / solenoid and wires that operate the remote fuel filler release mechanism please ?

Do I need very long arms from inside the boot.

Alternatively I see a single Torx-Star screw-bolt outside the car by the filler cap but I cannot see that this single screw is enough to keep the whole mechanism in place - I may be wrong.

 

I see the location of the servo is easy to find by following the red manual relase pull cord. However, how to get to the servo so that I can fit a new part is not obvious.


Any tips wuld be appreciated.

 

If the gas filler door's spring functions, the lock CAN be circumvented by bending the door latch (for the locking pin) forward. Better to have it unlocked than be locked out and have to use the manual pull system. If you are concerned with fuel theft then you might look
at the central locking system. They are fragile, expensive, and IMHO over-engineered.

I agree.

I have replaced the part known as Accuator / Solenoid / Servo and all works OK. However, it is essential to replace the main plastic around the fuel filler hole as you need to break the plastic lugs that are not visible but hold the plastic in place.

The manual solution was useful in the interim.

Old thread I know, but I have the same issue.

I have ordered the parts from Audi which turned up today including the plastic surround (8K0809999A).

Question for those who have replaced the surround - how do you remove the outer fuel flap from the old surround

 

I can't add any more than my post of 11Jun2011. Good luck. oh and I needed to take care not to scratch the metal bodywork.

 

Replaced surround and motor the other day - fairly straight forward.
I had to drill the 4 indents out on the surround in order to get to the clips behind.

The new surround needed a bit of washing up liquid as the rubber seal was tight.

Good tip for anyone else doing this - tie string to the old release cable before pulling it out otherwise you will spend an age trying to thread the new cable back through the body!

Apart from that all went well.
