Default hp gain

i have a 1998 A4 1.8T. stock this car is kinda slugish and i was hoping to make it a bit faster. i was looking for a new turbo kit that would make a big difference in my cars performance for a low kind of cost like under 1000. i was also wondering if a chip would be a better idea and who makes a good chip.

do you know roughly how much of a gain i would get out of the K04. i have been looking at this turbo but i also found another for around 1200 http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/me...ory_Code=VVWTK, but im not to familiar with turbos and all of that stuff. what else would i have to do to my motor if i replace the stock turbo?

or save a lil more and get a ko4 kit reason i am say ko4 because its easy to deal with, most ppl are going to say go for a bigger turbo, but you are dealing with a stock motor so i would say your best shot in seeing a big diffrence is getting a ko4 kit, my car is currently chipped on stock turbo(ko3) i wanna upgrade the turbo, if you are going to keep your car untill it dies onya go for something better save money

bigger turbo=upgrading many many parts=$$ k04 is the way you want to go i will be too since i am in college when i recieve my financial aid check)

you will have to get a diverter valve anyway

and you should stay away from the gt2x kit.. theres alot of problems with it

a k04 will get you decent gains and retain stock driveability

but you can get an extra 50 horses from a chip

Chip is gonna give you a nice turbo sound. It will drstically increase your psi. Get a chip, exhaust and k04 and you should be alright. Intake and DV too. You are gonna need the DV the intake you can pass on unless you wanna make it sound nicer. The intake really adds no performance and is subject to heatsoak but, your car will growl and whe you let off the gas your DV will go PPSSHHHH like a BOV. I love my intake. But I concur with k04 being better from a ease of use and $ standpoint. A big turbo will give you better gains but a k04 will be just fine. And you'll have way less problems.
