Default I fixed my airbag light!

I had the airbag light come on after I did some work on the radio. I had installed an inline FM modulator with a signal amplifier for my XM Commander receiver. Whenever I tried to clear the code for the airbag (driver side high resistance), it would come back on immediately. I was about to take the car in to the dealer.

Well, I had the vag-com hooked up to check for an intermitten evap leak that was throwing a code. I had replaced the vacuum check valve next to the airbox and was hoping that would fix it. While hooked up, I checked my radio faults and noticed some weird code about controller internal memory error (I wish I had saved the code to know for sure).

I cleared the codes (I also had some antenna error due to using an in-line FM modulator with my XM receiver). Then I went to the airbag controller and cleared the code (driver side high resistance-01217) and it stayed off.

For everyone who has had this problem, check and clear your radio codes and see if that doesn't fix the problem.

Yes, a Symphony. But the previous owner had installed an XM Commander satellite receiver. The XM Commander uses a FM modulator in line with the antenna cable. While it's better than the wireless modulators for XM reception, it can screw up receiving other stations (and certainly hoses AM stations). So I added a signal amplifier in line with the antenna wire to help the regular FM and AM stations. It works well, but somehow when I was doing all that I must have whacked out the radio controller module. That, in turn, seems to have whacked out the airbag controller.

I shut the car off and started it several times and checked for airbag faults each time. No fault! I'll be sure to post if the light comes back on.
