I got a Sub and amp (I have pics of it)
i'm thinking about getting some stereo equiptment in my b5. i was thinking about just getting a sub and amp. maybe a head unit. actually i don't know anything about sound performance. haha help.
Do what I suggested above... get a 500/5, and I'd go JL 10W3v2 -- best bang for the buck. You'd be happy with that... and I'd stick with the stock HU at first... and if you want more, then upgrade the HU. I just love the appearance of stock... I have an alpine cda-7998 which I really wouldn't trade for ANYTHING... but still... I wish I could have kept the stock look
JL stuff is definately NOT the best bang for buck equipment. An Adire Shiva and any 400x1 @ 4hm amp is a great bang for buck setup. When I upgraded from a Shiva to a 13w7, the only real difference was a marginal increase in sound quality. Only really noticeable if you're an audiophile. If I were to get another sub setup, I'd go with a Shiva again. If you go to an audio forum, you could find one for maybe ~$150USD used, and a suitable amp for ~$125. JL is overpriced, unless you are **** about sound quality and features.
go to www.caraudioforum.com or www.elitecaraudio.com and ask those guys. They'll tell you all you need to know about car audio.

Well I am ****... hence the focal polykevlars in the mail...
Their amps are awesome though... like, I would hate for an amp to be the limiting factor in my system... but whatever. You can get good amps for less money... I stand by my W3v2 suggestion though, as a good bang for the buck option.
Old RF power series amps are also good. What other 5 chan amps are there, though? I think a 5 chan is a great idea for people who aren't audiophiles...

That's true, old RF's are great. And there's nothing wrong with W3v2's. And that's cool that you're getting polykevlars. I've always wanted to hear some Focals.
I think I'll end up just putting a 4 channel in my car and amping the stock speakers. That is, if I even decide to upgrade the audio system. Haven't spent any money on car audio since I was 18, and it could very well stay that way.
edit: Kicker has a good 5 channel amp for $400. 75x4 and 210x1 @ 4ohms. 420@2 ohms. Check crutchfield.

Yeah I have no personal experience with kicker... I hear good things though. But yeah... going 4 chan and getting real power to the speakers is a good way to start. If you still aren't happy... adding a 200~ watt sub amp and sub is easily done. I know I personally couldn't be happy without a sub... but I am sure most people could.
I have an alpine MRV-540 lying around... collecting dust actually... I was considering throwing it into my dads b6... and seeing what those symphony speakers can do with 80 watts RMS a piece. :P
