loud compared to my friends 00 1.8t and compared to my dsm that had a tdo5h with 17 lbs of boost.. This problem started by surging when i would let of the gas slowly on the highway and has progressed to punching the gas and the power just disappearing... The problem is that i only have 350 more miles on my warranty... the car has 79650 miles on it

 

could be the coil packs, if you keep going to the dealer for the same problem and the probem was found but not solved b4 the end of the waranty the dealer is still oblicated to fix it because they knew the problem existed.. sometimes you just have to fight the dealer, it sucks when there is no check engine light and still a probem and buying new coil packs just to see if that is the problem is an expensive way to diagnose the problem..
when was the last tune up? try checking the plugs? make sure there are no loose or broken wires going to the packs themsleves..

 

i thought the coil pack problem was fixed on the 2001's?

Anyways, I'm having a similar problem and haven't been able to track it down. Try locating a VAG-COM in your area and getting it scanned.

 

so its definitly not the diverter valve?.... the last time the car was maintenced was at 50,000 and i dont think the tb was ever done

 

not sure about this one.. not any easy fix.. no check engine light just lack of power... I would do what BaconBait said, get it scanned and have them run a running Diagnostic to see whats going on a run a log.. have it printed out and post it, some of the more Knowledgeable guys can tell you whats up, surprised the dealer didnt do anything like that yet..

 

the place i bought it isnt an audi dealership does that matter?

 

Sounds like a boost leak to me. A stock 1.8t's turbo shouldnt be loud. Check the hose that comes out the bottom of the turbo.

 

sometimes while driving if i take a corner hard i can feel the boost come back on.... does that help in the diagnosis?
