My 2000 1.8T, its hard to discribe as it happens every so oftenat diff times in the rpm rangewhen im driving but the sound doesnt appear under wot.but it sounds like a kid with asthma taken adeep breath (only way i can discribe it) im thinking my dv is on the way out am i right or could it be somethin else.

 

my 84 4000cs makes that noise but its cuz of the way the turbo is set up, no dv... id check the vac like to the dv it might be toasted or the dv may be gone, either way sounds like its just not dumping the air

 

I replaced all the vac lines in october cause i had a leak, i'll check the vac line to the dvin the morning and swap out the dv to the stock one and c if the sound goes away. thanks for the quick response.

 

yep yep not a prob but yea dv is probably the answer, if not check the wastegate make sure its not sticking

 

how would i go about checking the wastegate?

 

well you could use a vac pump and see if its accuating it all the way or pull on the rod see if its froze up
