i may want an A4
hey guys,
right now i have a VW, but im tryin to sell it now. but im still not sure if i want an A4 or another vw. some info on what you guys like about your cars, what you dont like about them would be awesome. i would probably have to find an A4 for about no more than 9-10k...so if thay hinders me from anything let me know. i have seen a few nice audis for around that price with milage around 90k. how many of you guys have milage like that? has it been holding out stong? cuz i know vw maintance is $$$ and audi is prolly the same. okay so sorry for all the questions just if you have anything to say let me know!
thanks

i'm sure you'll be very happy with an Audi. The maintenance is pretty pricey, probably on par with a VW and maybe a tad more. You should be able to find something with 60-80k miles for less than 10k. Keep in mind the timing belt needs changed after 70k miles.
thanks for the input...i really like the styling of the A4, its just i know vw's...well kinda, what ive learned since ive had one, so i would always try stuff myself, and there would always be the vortex for when i had problems i could easily find used parts and info. hows that with audi? hows the work on an audi? i had a 3rd generation btw, so all body parts were pretty easy to work with, i havent really looked into styling of the 4th generation, but it seems like its a little different. anymore info and input is great.thanks
and then there still is the options of looking into other cars that arent vw/audi. japanese cars usually have better reliability, but im not sure if thats what i want.

If you are familiar with VW issues, then you wont be surprised that Audi shares some of the same problems.
The cars are well put together, tight and provide great rides. The 1.8T is a very tunable engine, and the car will give you many miles of use (not necessarily trouble free).
Weak spots are control arms, MAF, and coil packs.
If you are interested in modifying the engine, make sure you get the turbo 1.8 and a manual transmission

thanks. i will def. get a manual. but on the engines...im not looking into major tuning. i dont want to run into turbo problems of the tuning cuz i dont have enough money to play around with all that. with the 2.8 '97 and on i think the 190 hp is solid, compared to the 1.8T 150hp, if i can find one at a price otherwise the 1.8t will do fine also it won't really matter to me much, at the moment i dont care. i just want to get a feel for how audi's are, and info about them, what people like/dislike about them, and the audi community. im reading some reviews but most of those people are normal drivers.
the 190HP 2.8 didn't start until 98 i believe. 96-97 was the 12V 2.8L (172HP), then in 98 they changed to a 190HP 30V...audis are actually very similar to VWs, they just have a better overall quality to them. the ride is amazing. the bose sound package is awesome with a little extra bass from a 10". the road noise in my 12V is basically nothing until about 60+mph, then i start to hear a little wind, but very little. repairs and maintenance are going to be VERY similar to VWs. the 2.8 is a more reliable engine, and the V6 cars are usually nicer (typically they have more options like the cold weather package, bose, homelink, real leather, etc). if you're not planning on modding i would definitely go with the 2.8
What bent said.
Cept B5's are awful for wind noise... you're right, nothing happens until 60mph... but go past there, and its dissapointing. Music up, and you dont notice... but it's no lexus in terms of noise! The b6 a4 is a lot quieter for wind noise, just a bit more road noise thanks to the 17's... I'd be the b7 is quieter again. Jest, any input on road noise and wind noise? Prolly have more road than wind... and always a little engine noise with a turbo 4

mine only gets really bad at just above 80mph, then i start to hear all kinds of wind. it is pretty minimal up to that point though, for me...but i also never drive without music on, so that does drown out some of it.
thanks for the input guys. i dont mind wind noise cuz the little A3 vw jetta had a lotta noise, plus i might throw on a little exhaust thats not too loud. for the engine, i really like the word RELIABLE. ive never owned a turbo car so i dont know how things work but i love the sound of a turbo. so im kinda between turbo and reliablity. as for engine modification i would be looking at just maybe a little exhaust action, chip, air filter, as i have in my vw. then maybe some nice wheels with springs/struts or coils. then some minor exterior things. the thing is im still deciding what i want. i have the time from here on til i sell my vw or decide. but another thing is im going off to college in a year so i dont really know anything. still guys more info on the cars, and your opinions of what you guys would do or and suggestions would be awesome. thanks!
