ummm....lazer??
why put a bit of money and some work into a 1.8 liter 4 cylinder with 1 turbo, when you could get more bang for your buck putting a bit of money and some work into a 2.7 liter 6 cylinder with 2 turbos?
I don't get it. Why is that better?
he already stated why. higher insurance and more maintenance costs (ever try to do a timing belt on a 2.7?). also 2 turbos aren't always better than one. if you dont think so, ask any guy who owns a supra.
I understand your point, but using a supra as a comparison isn't logical. supras (2JZ ones anyway) have a 3 liter inline 6 with twin sequential turbos. B5 S4's, as I'm sure you know, have a 2.7 liter V6 with twin non-sequential turbochargers. by your logic, one turbo is always better, because people who mod supras generally go with a single large turbo. so do skyline GT-R guys, for the same reason. this doesn't apply to an engine with its cylinders oriented in a "V" formation, because there's two cylinder heads. you can't tell me that better performance can be had out of an S4 by switching to a single turbo, it just isn't possible.

yes, higher insurance rates and maintenance costs are a drawback to owning an S4. however, two turbos in this case is indeed better than one, and is always better than one when you're talking about a V6. so I wouldn't include that as a drawback to having an S4 over an A4. when it comes down to it, a chipped S4 with ~300 hp is going to be much more reliable and streetable than an A4 that's running a GT2871rs or bigger, with all the associated goodies.

do you know how often the stock turbo's burn out on an s4 ?
and to change them requires pulling the entire motor

so if you cant do work yourself the maintence and parts for the same job will be alot more
im not in anyway bashing the b5 s4, they are great cars, and i love them.. but from a performance and maint standpoint its not like they are unbeatable

and i dont see why some people are hell bent on obtaining one

Most people switch from twin turbos to a big single for a better powerband. Often times they sacrifice overall horsepower but it is your powerband which wins races. A single turbo on aVsetup motoris definitely possible and I have seen it done several times. You just need to make a custom manifold that meets at the turbo or use a remote mount.

5-Speed For Life =D .....

not trying to get your hopes down josh but when you find a S4 for less than 9,500 that would be that day ...... maybe if the S4 has about 190 - 220k

of course it can be done, and it's been done lots of times including in factory setups. the Z31 300zx had a single turbo on the 3 liter V6, and that motor makes good power. it's not as easy to do though, and it can sacrifice overall power as you mentioned. for a stock setup on a V-engine, it's much easier to just do twin turbos.

I know, I know onepoint8tee.

This is what I am doing right now. I am looking for both an A4 and an S4 both with manual tranny's. Depending on what I get (most likely the A4) then I will still be doing the stuff I have mentioned above.

I don't get some of you people. You always say "Sell your Trip-Tronic and get a manuel." And when I say i don't want to then you all start to tell me all the bad things about them. SO when i decide to get a manual you are now saying that all I do is talk and no action. Well guess what!? I am trying to make a desicion that I will be happy with! Does it make sense to you for me to put 2-3k into my automatic and not be happy with it then turn around and sell it and loose a bunch of money... or say I am going to do some stuff then decide to get a car that I WILL be happy with, then spend the 2-3K??? I don't know about you, but I try to think things through before going and spending that kind of money. And yes I know that I didn't think my car through enough when I got it at first. I kind of jumped the gun. THATS WHY I AM TAKING SO LONG ON THIS ONE!!!!

Ok I am done now.

Josh

we don't mind or care that you are doing this stuff......... but keep it on the dl

saying one thing then another and then another makes you look like you talk alot

don't talk just show us........ and we will be happy

and if you were the intermediate you talk like you are or the vet you want to be, you would of already knew this...... search newb, you won't see the vets telling everyone what they are getting

off rant
