I have a 1998 Audi a4 2.8 liter v6, and everytime I start it white smoke comes out of the tailpipe and it occasionally happens when I'm when I am parked with the car on and sometimes driving down the road. what is wrong with my car someone please help me.

 

Do you notice loss of power since you've noticed the white smoking coming out the exhaust? Have you checked to see if your oil looks like a milkshake rather than a dark brown color? How many miles are on this car? It's a 98, so I'm guessing upwards of 180k, right?

We could use some more information to help as this could be numerous problems.

 

the oil seems pretty normal, the car only has a hundred fifty four thousand miles on it, usually the white smoke will only happen when I start the car up, or read it up most of the time sometimes occasionally it will smoke while sitting. I've asked a few people they say it could be my rings or my valve seals does that sound right to you?

 

That could be the problem, yes.

I'm not terribly familiar with either, but I believe a compression test and/or a leakdown test will confirm whether it's the rings or not.
