Default I was runnign w/ a gti 2.0t..

So my friend has a GTI 2.0t and we were making a run in a deserted back alley street were there building new houses. Kinda twisty but not canyon status. We were going at it and he sucks at shifting(slow and afraid to down shift and doesn't know how to rev match) so I can keep up plus I have grip but we were doing A LOT of breaking. Well, in case you wanted to know he won every run by like 4-6 car lengths. He has springs and an intake( i know this does nothing).

After the run my breaks started smoking up, and I mean smoke like a hand held fire type of smoke from both break areas. Those are just my pads right? Did i just f my breaks? If its just the pads im getting the hawks tomorrow so it wouldnt matter.

TY!

You must have been breaking verrrrrrrry hard, I have never had that happen before to me..... if you saw smoke comming from the brakes, then that is not okay..... At the most when I break really hard for a long period of time, I can smell them(not see smoke)

you got to be kidding me!?!!?! ^^^^ don't tell me i'm going need a new break kit!!! aHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Honestly i can equate the breaks emitting smoke to about 5-7 sticks of a match book going on at once near the breaks. The smoke at about 5-7 inches away from teh calipers was about 4-6 inches in width and clearly visible.

someone helpzor...

I have never heard of/seen that happen before. How is your car now? does it drive and break as it did before? you may have caused some damage depending......

Hey I know this isn't really related to this original comment but I'm actually looking to replace my pads on my a4... What are some good ones that aren't like top of the line? I mean I drive my car hard sometimes but its not like I take it to the track or anything like that... I'm assuming that the slight squeaking coming from my wheels means they need to be replaced soon... It never has squeaked before and when I ignored the squeak on my old passat i ended up toasting the rotors as well... Any advice or link?? Also where can I order them for cheap?

Well if your worried about your brakes, check the pads/rotors. It's not too hard to do a brake job yourself, you'll save some $$ and learn somthing too.

i went cerami justin the front and just normal replacements in the back. since the front does most of the stoping anywho. if your looking to save money you could do something like that, im not sure what brand youd want, i dont evern rember what i put on mine but ceramic pads tend to run around 50$.

When i use to take my jeep off-roading i would run it hard. Evrytime we took breaks at the end of the canyon my brakes would be smoking. My Dads friends who is a mechanc also his brakes were smoking he said its no biggy.* Remember this was a jeep so idk if its different but i wouldnt worry.
