Default I think I have a boost leak.. Help anyone? Symptoms?

Ok, so lately I've been hearing a vacuuming/rushing air noisenoise come from my car sometimes while I'm driving. I hear my boost kick in, but shortly after I hear a vacuum/rushing airtype noise (it only happens sometimes). One of my buddies told me it's probably a boost leak. He said put your car into park, and rev your engine and see if it still makes the noise. When I did that, it didn't make the noise at all... I really don't know what it can be.

I don't have a boost gauge on my car yet either, so I wouldn't know if my PSI is dropping or not.

Help anyone? Thanks for your time in advance.

engine has to be under load to build boost. There's loads of posts about boost leaks, do a search and youll find the tennis ball method on here. Otherwise get a boost gauge and youll be able to tell for sure.

You can easily build a leak pressure test unit following these instructions I posted on AG with the upgrade on the second link.

Good deal man! Nice find! After I re-read it again, it seems a little complicated for most even though you gave great instructions. You should make them and sell this Im sure youd get quite a few interested people. Good work.

Well today, I happened to get my oil changed by one of the Pacific Audi Mechanics (from his home). Really good guy.

$70 for an oil change. (Don't flame me for not doing it myself, I'm just not a DIY guy. Lol)

So anyways, he has the same exact code reader that the Audi dealership uses and I got 3 codes pulled. Cylinder misifres, and I forgot the other thing.

He also told me my coolant tank needs to be changed and flushed, and I need a new hose somewhere.

He also took it for a test drive and told me that my car isn't running to its full potential, especially on a chip. It's really sluggish. That is why I got the codes pulled.. He said he knows what the problem is 99.5% sure.

He's gonna replace my coolant tank/flush it, replace one of the hoses that needs replacing, and fix the misfires all for $320.

I'm also going to get my full 80k service from this guy.. Timing belt replaced, spark plugs replaced, the whole thing.. Really good price too.. So if any of you guys from my area need stuff done.. Let me know!

Wow man, $70 for an oil change.

I pay $40 most for mine with Mobil synthetic.

^ Dealership charges $129.

$70 is for the full oil change + oil filter.

for the guy doing this on the side foryou hes still chargin you alot. The dealer by me charged 75 for an oil change, not an hours worth of labor! Also, is it the "whole" tank that needs replacing or just the fluid? Just for the coolant change, a hose change and a simple misfire check would be a complete RIP-off.

in the meantime, while you wait for your boost gauge, examine your vac lines (the braided black clothish looking ones), and examine them for cracked and the like... chances are if there is a vac leak they will feel awfully brittle and crumble in your fingers. best bet would be to go to an auto supplies store, and buy a few feeet of vac tubing, and just replace everything

shouldnt take too long (as long as you dont pull all the lines off first, then try and reconnect them)
