I want Audi to fix my car
I have a 2002 A4 (B6) 1.8TQ that is under warranty. I am at 23k. The problem, I believe, is transmission related. Everytime it downshifts shifts from 2nd to 1st - in D or Tip (shifting automatically only) and slightly in S - there is a very abnormal jerk, it feels like a car is tapping my rear bumper. If I coast to a stop (no brake) the jerk does not seem to be there when the car downshifts or is very slight.
My dealer recognizes the problem and blames it on software - they are waiting for Audi to supply a new version (I have talked to Audi customer service/advocate directly and they seem to agree - they have stated to me that there are other customers with this problem and that my car "fits" within the vin range that is affected.) I am not convinced. I have another call into the Advocates they are going to call me back - I am sure it will take over a week.
1. Does anyone have a guess as to what could be going wrong? Snub Mount? Does the software thing sound like a reasonable issue?
2. I would like advice on how to make them fix whatever is wrong. I have heard things about speaking with a factory rep and such? Do I need to write letters? It seems pretty simple to me, the car is under warranty, you recognize there is a problem so fix it. If they cannot fix it what remedy is reasonable to ask for?
I have posted with this problem before, sorry for the redundancy but I am at my wits end. Thank you for any insight or opinions.
I will share what the Advocate tells me when they call back.

Can't tell you for sure..but I've read a few threads that deal with this issue.
The responses seem to indicate that in some cases it's the snub mount, but from what I've read it also sounds like shifting from 2nd to 1st in either Tip or the "manual" 1st and 2nd gear of the auto is not a good idea. The tip (I guess) was designed for more agressive acceleration and not for down shifting. When using the manual shift for 1st and 2nd gear you are supposed to be stopped when shifting it into 1st gear. These "modes" of the transmission are not designed for engine braking or aggressive driving tactics. Your Audi dealer will probably just replace your snub mount and then slap your hand for driving the vehicle in an ill manner.
I do hope it is a software issue though! Worse comes to worse..lose the tip and get a manual(the only way to drive

Transverse, I too have read that it may be bad for trany to manually shift from 2nd to 1st in Tip mode. I do not do it. The problem occurs when the Tip mode automatically does the shift for me when I am slowing. I got the car used at 20k (currently 23k) from a chick that I worked with - she did not even know how to use the Tip mode because she never used it - this is no joke. She was so maticulous with the cars condition that she had plastic floor mats with newspaper under them over the stock mats to catch all water or whatever. The service records are timely (5k intervals) and indicate no problems. I guess I have this problem though. Man the car is great, I just need to get this lurching thing taken care of.
How/why does a snub mount go bad? Thanks for help.

Yes, I too had a recall item on my car the first time I took it in. On my ticket it states "Recall LY12 Performed." They did state it had something to do with the trany software, but it did not fix my problem.
