Default I want to change my grill lining....

2001 Ebony (off-black) A4. I want to change the silver front grill lining to match the color of the car. (I am speaking of the silver lining that encircles the face-grill of the car). I don't plan on doing this myself, but will consider it if it will save me anywhere near $100.00. Any suggestions on how I can get this done? Is there any place where I can order a replacement that matches my paint job? I would rather not do it myself due to time....

Thanks,

JR

I reccomend painting it yourself...buy some gray plastic adhesion primer, duplicolor spray paint, and a clear coat.

Sand with a bunch of different grits to rough up the chrome, and do 2-3 coats of each. I used 2 coats of primer, 4 coats of base coat, and 2 coats of clear coat.

Still looks great a month later, and cost under 15$.

Yep, I did the same thing... 15 bucks and if you ever need to repaint it, there are plenty of supplies left over, enough to do like 10 grills probably!

Here's my car, ebony pearl with the DIY grill.

That is very nice headshok.... I have a feeling it would only look good on black though. black grill on black "lining" on black car.... NICE.

if you are painting chrome or "plome" - plastic chrome, it will chip so i wouldnt recommend getting someone to do it since it'll come off anyway, you can buy the grill in plastic black and then paint it, i saw them when i was at waterfest.

i dont know about all that Pan, i think that may make it look a little ricey, i'd leave it, it accents the silver very well.

Thanks for the advice and instructions..I will do it myself for sure. Any recomendations on how I match the ebony pearl paint? Headshock - did you use a particular color you could give me the name of when I go to buy the spray paint?

Thanks guys
