I was wondering about an A4
and if there is both, how can you tell a difference? because i'm searching for an audi a4 year 1996-2001 and some car dealer talk shiet how this car is this and that when it really isnt, espcially on the car ad's online.
Quattro is available as well as fronttrak in all years. You can tell by the Quattro logo in the trunk and front grill. Also look under the back of the car for the rear differential.
there is quattro(all wheel drive), and front wheel drive.front wheel is slightly faster as there is no power loss due to extra drive lines and joints.quattro has independant suspension while front wheel has straight axle rear

i was just down there yesterday myself, but to clarify,in this haynes book i have here for 1996 thru2001 passat and all audi a4,on page 5 of chapter 1,it shows a big picture of the rear axle assembly#6 and says for 2-wheel drive models,so not for avant models only
