Hi,

I am having a strange problem. My car starts first time everytime, rain, sleet or snow. but it does a weird thing. when i'm at a set of lights, out of gear she purrs, but if i free roll down a hill it starts to die and the rev counter jumps up and down trying to keep the engine running, like its about to cut out. when i brake and come to a stop itruns fine. its a A4 1.8 '96 plateI have had a look around the breathers and cant find any holes, so i dont think it is an air intake thing.

I do need a new clutch, just wondering if the plates are skimming each other causing the engine to want to stop

any ideas???

 

Have codes read, they may be hidden.

 

Are you talking about putting it on a computer and have the system checked? because it is a bit hard to run the senario unless they have a laptop and can come on a ride while checking it.

 

Get it scanned for codes. There may be codes without aCEL.

 

I'm so lost at the moment mate, what isCEL???
