Default ign. coil pack

I have a 2002 a4 quattro (1.8t) and my check engine light came on, began blinking and my car was running really ruff. I ran an obd II check on it and i narrowed it down to a bad coil pack...so i have been looking for a replacement online and they keep saying that all 4 are required...Do i really need to replace all 4 or will replacing that one bad coil be ok??? thanks for the help guys

you don't need to, but if one went, you can bet the others will be right behind it. save yourself the trouble and just replace all 4. Personaly i keep an extra set in my trunk because they have been known to pop now and again.

a coil pack is like 50-75 each and its super easy to change on the 1.8Ts
and u only have to change the bad one

but ecstuning is selling them for cheap

I read somewhere that there is a part on the airbox that is know to go and causes this problem. It has to be on this site because i only surf here.

You might find it under a misfire search during this week.

First off, swap the coil pack that is bad in Cyl 2 to Cyl 3. See if the misfire follows the coil pack. If it does, buy 4 new coil packs and save the other 3 that are still good on your car. If it stays in Cyl 2, then you need to figure something else out, because it's not you coil pack.

airbox- that would prob be the MAF sensor

coilpacks- I noticed that ecstuning doesn't show any for the AEB engine. I like the idea of having a set on-hand as widdget said. Is this not an issue w/ AEB engines?

Find a new mechanic becauseyou just got ripped off, a coil pack is less than $50, and takes less than 5 minutes to swap out...

yes they do have them for AEB engine codes ... http://www.ecstuning.com/stage/edpd/...ry=Electricial

I think what hes talking about (airbox) is the ICM. Thats a pricey part, but i dont believe its $300.

I thought that 2001+ models dont have an icm as it is all controlled by ecu?
