I have a 96 audi a4 2.8 quattro. Tuesday night was pulling out of the parking lot and was driving out, all of a sudden the car started shaking, and the was a rumble from the engine bay. Parked it and let it be since it was dark outside. Went back to car the next day, same thing, but this time th engine light came on after a minute or so. My buddy figured it was a cylinder not firing, and he was correct, the #1 and 6 cylinders are not firing. we pulled all the wires, and checked whether they arched or not. on the ignition coil the 1 and 6 plugs fire from the same little coil block. i was wondering whether i had to replace the whole coil unit, or if i could just purchase the one block? Also if i do need to replace the coil unit, is anyone parting their car out by any chance? the engine is a afc-2.8. Would greatly appreciate some assistance with this. or does anyone know where i can get are built/cheaper ignition coil? or will doing so have me paying in performance?

my car was having the same problem and i thought it was the spark plugs or coil packs. So i changed the pluges and tried it and the car strted up good then in like a day started to do the same thing. I had to replace the MAF sensor on the airbox. My code was a cilinder 2 misfire kinda like yours.
...i checked the igniton coil to see which ones were giving spark, only the 1& 6 are not sparking, trust me i can tell, because every time the coil fired i felt a little jolt jof electricity through my arm...
