ignition coils
I've searched all over and couldnt find much info on coils and how to installing them, only that they seem pretty faulty on 1.8t engines. my mechanic is charging me 100 bucks to install coils and plugs, my question is, is it a do it yourself project or something your better off letting the mechanic do if you dont have much experience with cars. How long would something like that take???
Thanks for your time

RE: ignition coils
good. clean the surrouding area so u don't get anything into the engine. just pull the wire off the coilpack, get a 16mm spark plug remover tool, pull the coil straight out of there (unless it's held on by 2 little screws on the side), then put the tool into the hole, lefty loosy, and the spark plug will come out. then reverse the process and do this one at a time. have fun. since u don't kno wut ur doing, it'll take u about 2 hours or so. don't hurry, take ur time. also, get grease for the spark plugs. autozone or any parts place will have them. just put it on all point of contact with the coil and plug. and when ur done. u will have learned a lot of knew things and kno how to do this for any other car. have fun and good luck

RE: ignition coils
its easy! dont waste $100 on a mechanic! also make sure u put some antiseize on the spark plug threads and use a torque wrench to tighten them down, 22 ft lbs on a b6 i think... if u over tighten, u will strip an aluminum head (very bad) and if u undertighten them, u will get blowback...
