Default importance of a splash guard?

are splash guards important? i thought it was important to have one, especially since i live in winnipeg where snow and salt and other garbage could possibly bounce up into the engine compartment. my mechanic says it's not that important. is he just being a loser?

Well is your mechanic an engineer? If its there its there for a reason, it helps with aerodynamics which in turn gives you better gas mileage, makes the car look better, and keeps oil from hitting your driveway when you develop a leak. But if you mechanic says its worthless..........

Yeah, they help with aerodynamics and stuff, but your car won't break or anything if you take it off. Old cars didn't have them. Just leave it on unless there's a good reason to remove it.

They look like S hit. You should be happy if they fall off. If they don't, then rip them off.
