Default Inspection

So i just purchased my first 1998 a4 1.8tq just about 2 weeks ago. 51k miles on it
And today i finaly got my car inspected from an audi dealership to check any problems with the car(im a complete newb).
I got a "Pre-Purchase Inspection Level 2"($165) done and they found out i have:

Oil Pan leaking (leaking at the bottom)
Needs 4 new tires
Collant resevoir is cracking
tie-rod ends wearing
Misfires detected

anyways i was just wondering should i get the repairs done at an Audi dealership? The guy estimated a $1000+ job for all the repairs/replacements. Is this good? What are causing the misfires? Are these normal maintenence at this mileage? As for the oil leak, supposedly a head gasket blew or something and was repaired incorrectly, i guess audi uses a special gasket for their cars. I realy want to do something with this car. Any thoughts?

And on an off topic question. When i put fuel in the car does it matter which type it is? Which Fuel is beneficial 87 89 91? (sorry i dont know the label for them im realy retarded when it comes to cars)

Thanks alot!

I thought the "pre-purchace inspection" was to be done BEFORE you bought the car. You can buy some of these parts cheap and do it yourself. Coolant tank is easy, replace the tie rod ends w/ Meyle parts, they are much better. Put on some good tires, have the car scanned for codes. If the oil leak is not bad, you can fix that at a later date.

Well considering im new at cars and still learning, would it still be too hard for me to go in an try in repairing it myself. I would love to eventualy start fixing/modding myself but im not sure where to start.
And Where should i buy the manual?

None of this needs to be done at Audi. As a matter of fact if your car is off warranty, you can kiss them goodbye. Find a good VW/Audi mechanic. Order the parts over the net.

bentley sells the best manual but a haynes will do for all the basic stuff. i would go out and get the haynes (they sell them at any auto parts store) and look up the stuff that needs fixing, read it and then determine wether or not you will have the guts to tear in to it.

Exactly, but you should have had the car inspected before you bought it.

The missfires might be ignition coils. Find out if your year had a recall on them and if yours were replaced.
