Default Installed my K04, some thoughts and opinions

Its in and OH DAMN what a difference. The lower RPMs have so much more kick to them than my K03. Install was not as easy as the guide on Audiworld made it out to be. Unbolting and unhooking the turbo wasn’t too hard, all bolts came free pretty easily. The problems came where after removing the airbox and unhooking the turbo it was stuck between the engine and a bracket under the turbo. We ended up loosening this bracket and twisting it down to get it out.

First run was amazing what a difference. Though when I came back after a 10 min trip of little above normal driving the thing was red hot. I did a search on this and it seems its not that uncommon but I just wanted to make sure even if it was only driving for 10 min and not pushing it the whole time should it be red?

Also not sure if you all remember my post asking to help troubleshoot a noise that sounded like a bicycle when not on the gas and the car was moving? Yeah my valve in the K03 was extremely loose and you could wiggle it very easily. Problem SOLVED!

Problems I still have:
Still need to do a 15+ mile test.
Still need to make sure all oil and coolant lines are working properly to the K04 because of the red hotness.
Need to check hoses going to DV and K04 and around to make sure they arnt crimped which also would cause red hotness.

Any thoughts and feedback would be greatly appreciated.

its gonna be red hotness .. especially if you pushed it during that 10 minute drive.. make sure to let your car cool down before you shut it off.. or get a turbo timer ... make the K04 last a while

Congrats, and nice job on the diy. I would upgrade to the correct sofware as soon as possible. I think the borla should be sufficient.

Sounds sweet man. Did the only thing you do was swap turbos and nothing else? I thought you needed a whole kit...but i'm a noob when it comes to this ****

So part of the redness looks to be due to one of the vaccume lines being collapsed. Fixed that and im looking much better. Barely gets red at all now.

miked: Yes its the 91oct APR chip still I do know its made for a K04 and in a month or so will be switching to GIAC. Anyone need a APR chip? =) Also the Borla is 2.25 and I believe a fair amount of people with K04's and GT2* who run it here. Shoudl be ok =)

A4 the Quattro: Yeah I was looking into Turbo timers when reading the threads on red hot turbos. I will have to do more research on this.

Beer Mod: Yeah its a HUGE difference. Given my K03 was a little busted due to that valve but if the valve was open you would think I would have more power more often.

flyinb501: Yeah I plan on it =)

a4fanatic82: Well I had a K03 chip which works for the time being but I need to get a K04 chip for it. Already had a diverter valve, and exhaust and NKG spark plugs.

Thanks all for your comments and feedback =)

Lucky you... I'm not even chipped! But I'm gonna skip a chip and just save for BT.
