Installing new COIL PACKS :)!
Now that i have the new coil packs i needed some of the people that have actually done it themselves to maybe give me a step by step on how to get the old coil packs out and how to put the new one in. I did a search but couldn't find anything about the getting the old ones out and the new ones in. I purchased two of them for my b6 avant just in case another one blows soon after i get this one fixed. So, if anyone could point me in the right direction of a step by step to getting these things out and 'snapped' back in i would appreciate it.
Also, is there anyway to tell which one is out without having to have to switch all 6 of them out and around. Would taking this thing down to auto zone and having them read the code be a good start? I mean, would they be able to tell me which one is NOT firing and which ones are fine?
Thanks for your help guys,
I truly appreciate it.

If it's anything like the AEB,
1.unplug
2.unscrew
3.pull out
4.put in new
5.go drink a beer
checking for a bad coilpack- swap one around to see if the "bad" one follows so you can identify it or
test resistance thru the coilpack w/ a multimeter... i remember reading something about it, unfortunately forgot the details. i skip around af, az and aw I forget where I read it.

I am sorry for not responding to this earlier, i had been out of town. Thank you so much for the super detailed instructions. And, yes, it is for my Avant 3.0. I keep meaning to update my sig. I ended up taking it to Euro Tech in Culver City. I bought the coil packs from Downtown Audi but and after trying to do it using the 1.8 detailed instructions that Panda Express had emailed to me gave up because they are located in harder to reach places on the engine as well as the hoses and the plastic guard that holds the coil pack wiring were all connected made it impossible to use the 'pack rotating' way to find out which coil had gone bad. Anyway, after trying and trying i called the owner of Euro Tech and he told me to bring it in on Monday (this was Saturday evening) and he would take care of it. I brought it down there, he hooked up the vag com pulled the coil pack from the back one under the coolant reservoir put my new one in, reset my CEL and that was that. it took him all of 10 mins. He then showed me how the vag com worked and what it did while he ran some other diagnostic tests on my car. It was a really cool experience because he showed me how he did everything and explained it what the coil packs do and why they are there etc. He didn't even charge me for doing the work. Awesome. He had a european rs4 there and showed me what they were working on on it and told me all sorts of cool Audi stories. I know i sound like a giant nerd but the guy was cool and not because he did the coil pack for free but because you could really tell he loved audis, loved working on them, and loved talking about them and teaching things to people that are new to the brand or cars in general for that matter. If you live in L.A. and would like to try an alternative to the dealerships than you might wanna give them a call. Jose, the owner was super nice and very helpful. This sounds like a commercial i am sure but i can't say anything was bad or even so-so about my dealing with him.
And that my friends is the story of 'My 1st ever coil pack gone bad'.
Thanks again for the replies and help you guys. I appreciate it to the 'max' (california style).
Cheers,
P
