I want to get this just for the tubing, then replace it with a K&N cone, but how can it fit a 99 A4 AND an 04 A4....

Your stock airbox flows good, and an exposed cone filter will probably not do much for you other than suck in hot air and be loud. You can rig a good heatshield to keep temps down, but youll probably notice more lag down low and a slight loss in low end tq. Throtle response will be better, but Ive tried it and the cons outweighed the pros- if there were any.

You can get a couple elbow pipes to make a U like the evoms intake, or just slap the filter right onto the MAF without any other tubing.

i always thought a CAI minimally increased throttle response and kept temps down somewhat? I want the sound mainly, i think i'm just going to order a boostedtech intake..good idea?

Yeah a true Cold air intake can... But there is no true CAI for the 1.8t- at least in the A4. They are all technically short ram intakes. Air boxes in most cars are restrictive after you start modding, but not so much with the A4- until you get a turbo the size of your head- and the airbox wont fit anymore anyways.

No, just take the airbox out, remove the maf, put the maf inbetween the filter and turbo hose. Some 99's have a secondary air pump which a hose is ran from it to the front of the air box. Youll need a breather filter for that hose.

so your saying the carbonio isn't worth the money?
i've never really seen the carbonio up close.. is it a short ram intake with tubing and whatnot? it looks like its just a carbon fiber cover over something that looks like a stock airbox.
But in terms of me wanting the sound and the minimal pros, is the boostedtech intake wise?

The only thing that makes the carbonio costso much is the carbon fiber. Other than that, its just an air filter covered up by a good heat shield that looks pretty. You can accomplish the same thing with a cone filter and good heat shield (search for audizine heat shield.) I dont know about the boosttech intake, but its probably like all the other ones that arent worth 1/4 of the cost. Save your money for something that gives real gains.
