Alright so i hae a good deal on a FMIC. its new and only $600 and requires no cutting of the bumber or anything. but im only running a KO3 with chip and exhuast. would you put a intercooler in my car or not?

nope you will end up losing power from the psi drop of like 1-2. you dont need a fmic until you are running a ko4 with a fairly agressive tune. i have a fmic right now on my k03 and lost almost 2 psi but im going BT soon

Agreed, FMIC's with the K03 is overkill, the stock SMIC cools just fine. If you plan on going BT though like a4 1.8T, then ya drop the cash on it.

What if you live in an area that is overly hot.....like 100 plus degrees. Also, I have heard that if the piping is the right size, that the psi drop will be minimal.

When you almosttrippling boost levels with a chip, the stock smic is not as efficient, especially in hot weather. A fmic might be overkill depending on its core size and piping diameter for the k03, but you could get a mbc (bypass n75) and crank it up 2 psi so the manifold will get the boost its expecting (if you even get a 2 psi loss.) So the ecu might ask for 18 psi, and you are boosting 16 due to the pressure drop. Get a mbc, turn it up a TAD, and boost 20 psi so the map/manifold/engine will see 18psi. In my own theory- that should work. The turbo will be working a tad harder to deliver the boost you want, but 20 psi is within its limits, and the forced air should be a lot cooler.

this is the first im hearing of a FMIC losing power with the ko3 turbo. you might want to read up some more because i think there are a few ppl with front mounts that dont seem to have any problems. it could all have to do with piping size and intercooler size.

And ironically, those are the people that go with the $90 ebay FMIC's. I think the main thing is using stock diameter piping from the turbo outlet pipe to the throtle body.

I have read a lot about this and you will see a drop in psi if you run a K03 and anything bigger than 2.25" pipe. If you are upgrading the turbo then 2.5" pipe will be needed to run efficiently.

I agree. I run a K03 with GIAC FXK03 and I logged my car before and after the FMIC installation. My IAT went down considerably and so did my Correction Factors.
