Default Interior question: am I missing something?

Hi, I think I have something missing from my interior, but I'm not sure what, if anything. Behind the flip-up lighter on my B5 A4 (99) is a notch about an inch wide, an inch deep, and about three and a half inches long with a square hole cut in the bottom right in the middle. Is something supposed to go there? For the life of me, I can't figure it out and I asked the previous owner and he doesn't remember anything being there. I'm pretty sure it's not for a phone, because the jack for that is in the fold-up armrest, and it's not deep enough to be one of those awesomely over-complicated cupholders. I might mount some nifty switches in there if all else fails but I'd like to know what was originally there. Thanks!

I'll have one up this evening, I tried to get one with my sidekick but a low quality camera and black on black interior isn't the best combination.

It is the site of the OLD OBD port. The port is now under the driver's dash.
