Default iPod adapter for A4

Guys,

I know this topic has been asked many times and I already did the search but I still have few questions. Someone who have done the installation please help me out. Here are my questions:

1. Radio removal (04 A4 stock HU w/in-dash 6 CD changer, non-Bose): After I insert 4 radio removal tool, how do I slide the radio out? Do I simply grab those 4 radio removal tools and pull HU out?
2. Adapter location: Where should I hide the iPod adapter? Should I hide it behind the radio (where, right behind, left corner, right corner... etc.)?
3. Cable: I want to have my iPod in the glovebox, do I need to drill a hole in the glovebox wall or I can just fish around?
4. Glovebox (continue from question #3): If I need to take glovebox wall off, how do I do that?

I haven't decide which iPod adapter I will go for, probably Ice Link or adapter made by Audi (I can get on Ebay for much cheaper). It doesn't matter which adapter I use, they pretty much all the same (installation wise), so I greatly appreciate your help.

Thanks.

Hey I actually just purchased the Dension IceLink off ebay for my 03... Also got the radio keys. Yah you just insert the key until it clicks then pull out radio. I did the same exact thing as the DIY instructions that somebody put in the DIY section. Look in that section it explains things very well. I love my icelink and i got the metal bracket thing as well(he suggested it on the post) and it looks clean and is definitely nice. Good quality sound. I just disconnect ipod and stick it in center console when not in car and with my tinted windows people don't even realize what that is. Thats my choice rather than glove box.. Hard to access ipod... Check out the DIY section.

Just for the record, I got the DiceLink ipod system that plugs into the CD changer port at the rear of the radio (not in the trunk). I had a real tough time taking out the radio. If inserting the keys until they click doesn't work insert them until right BEFORE they click. Just depends on what type of keys you're using I think. It can be a real pain, I recommed not pulling by the keys either (i just ended up ripping out the keys). Put some fingers in the tape hole or any way you can grab on to it. It might take some effort but if you feel like you're pulling on it too hard don't get frustrated and pull harder or you'll end up breaking the thing like me.

I'm really happy with my setup I would also recommend the bracket that holds the ipod. I didn't get it but I would in a heartbeat if I wasn't afraid of taking my radio out again. One of the latches is now broken from my short temper so I doubt even a pro could get it out just using keys, probably need to take out some of the interior.

I know it would be hard to access iPod if I put it in the glovebox but not to me. The thing is I have an extra iPod (my old 2nd Gen iPod). It works fine except the battery is having some problems. Since the kit charges iPod when it connects, I can pretty much sync all songs I have (the capacity is 10GB so it stores tons of songs) and leave it in the car. So the accessability isn't an issue for me.

Anyone knows if I need to drill a hole in the glovebox in order to run the cable from the radio? If so, how do I get the glovebox wall out?

Thanks for your help.

EDIT: Most DIY shows you how to run the cable to the center console or under the arm rest, I need to know how to run the cable to glovebox.

Isn't there a tape player? Just get a $9 tape player adapter.

Tape player adapter isn't the same as direct iPod adapter. Direct connect gives you the best in sound quality plus you can control iPod via your radio headunit and buttons on the wheel.

As for mounting, I have my ipod in the arm rest, and a remote switch by the shifter. the remote was like $40 at bestbuy.
Ignore the tiptronic stuff.
