If the timing is good and the valves and compression are OK, you have lucked out. You can breathe at bit easier
However, there is a lesson to be learned here and a warning to DIYers.
Things aren't as easy as they look.
Doing it yourself is not always the cheapest way.
It takes more than having the tools and an instruction book to learn the tricks of the trade. (Just because you have a scalpel and a surgery textbook doesn't mean you can operate on someone).
The smartest people know their limitations
