get it scanned for codes

 

Oh I missed out so much.

- Can I scan for codes with Vag-Com even the Check Engine Light is not on?
- Does the MAF sensor look like a razor-shaped chip inside the MAF housing that I need to spray with electrical cleaner?

Please help with my questions. Thanks again for your advises.

 

yes. you can still scan for codes even thought the check engine light is off. sometimes you canhave an error code (aka DTC) for 1-2 weeks before you will pop a CEL.
the 'razor blade shaped chip' is the maf sensor itself. yes, clean that aswell. some maf's have that chip shape and others like mine have what looks like 2 small electricalresistors as sensors.
and damn is that a big grill for the maf, the opens in my maf grill is realy small.

 

Hm.. 84k? Could it be the filter causing the resistance in the fuel flow? A good tune up wouldn't hurt..

 

The audi fuel filter is about the size of a beer can. It is supposed to last the "life of the car". I changed mine at 140K miles. Have the car scanned for codes. A CEL only comes on for emission related problems. Before you start replacing parts, get the codes and post them back here.

 

i dont know about the 99.5's but thats not true on my 1996.
