Default Just got an A4...

Hey all, my name is Mike and I recently purchased a 2001 A4 1.8T 5M in silver. I used to drive a '97 Honda Prelude that I had dumped a few grand into. Audi's have always been real sexy cars to me so I did some research and got myself a good deal. Anyways, I still have some money left over from upgrading and was interested in a new blow off valve. I would also like to get a chip and exhaust. I'm new to the A4 scene and know that you guys were once in my place. So if anyone could give me their inputs on the nicest sounding blow off valve, a deep sounding but not too loud exhaust, and give me some information on the chips, I'd greatly appreicate it. Thanks.

A4's typically use divereter valves (bypass valves) instead of blow off valves. These are more efficent than BOVs because they recycle the excess boost rather than release it. You unfortunately don't get the cool BOV sound though. Everyone on this forum is still going to recommend a Diverter valve. For a chip go with APR or GIAC. Your car has a K03 sport turbo so the GIAC X chip is the strongest chip you can buy. Everyone has there own opinion about who is better, APR or GIAC. Exhaust, go with a least a catback. Many people use Borla I bieleve but there are several companies out there. IMO, you should go ahead a pay a little bit more for APR's because it's turbo-back. Also keep in mind a chip will run you about $500 but you can upgrade FPR, Turbo, and Computer for $1,600. Anyway, good luck with all your decisions. How many miles on your car?

Thank you for the suggestions and advice. There's just over 47,000 on it.

So I won't ever be able to get the cool blow off valve sound? The car makes one as it is now that can be heard very well in a parking garage but I would like it to be louder. As far as chips go, should I get the one you suggested if I plan to upgrade turbo in about a year?

That's not bad. At 60k you'll need to replace your timing belt and when you do purchase a snub mount. I don't have one myself but supposedely it fixes the slop you feel when shifting gears at high RPMs.

Get the GIAC chip even if the turbo won't be upgraded for about a year? Or is there a better chip out there that I should use until then? Also, I am still curious as to how I would be able to get the blow off valve sound out of my car.

Rice galore? I don't see how a pop off noise would resemble rice in any way. You have to know that i'm NEW to this scene. Just looking for help. Do you suggest any diverter valves?

BOV's simply don't work with a recirculatory system like what is used on our cars. As for a chip, what I'm doing is, I went with a GIAC chip even though eventually I'll upgrade my turbo because GIAC has lots of support for other turbos, so most of the time you can just upgrade what you have. As for exhaust, I'm going to get the APR exhaust, looks beautiful, chrome tips, but not big and flashy at all, amazing deep tone, plus it comes with a DP in the kit.

Just my .02
