Just got back from the stealership...
Hey guys this is my first post on here. I bought an 01 a4 2.8q in november and have been reading a lot on this forum.
Ok so i just got back from my first trip to the dealership and it wasnt very fun. I took the car in because ive been having problems with my clutch. They said i need a new clutch and flywheel and there estimate was $2562. Now that sounds rediculously high and was wondering if i go to a local shop would i be expecting to pay that much?
They also said my tierods were lose, estimate was $345
Finally they said i should replace my timing belt its at 63000 miles right now estimate was $1250
Im more worried about getting the clutch replaced right now b/c i can barely drive the car as it is. Should i buy the clutch kit myself and take it to the shop? Also ive been reading about how u guys have stage 1 or stage 3 kits. Do i need that or should i just go with a standard oem clutch. Thanks

I live just north of boston, ma. I have a certified preowned warranty on the car and thought stuff like this would be covered but i was wrong. You guys know of any good euro shops in MA?
Timing belt shoudl be no more than 650$!!
For optimal savings buy a clutch kit! it would come with a disk/presure plate and flywheel!
DO NOT TAKE IT TO THE STEALERSHIP!
they quoted me 2K for parts without labor when my clutch went out! so dont go there!

ECS Tuning has a clutch kit that comes with the pressure plate, disc, and throw-out bearing for $270. Do i need the flywheel? and if i do anyone know where i can find a kit that has everything?

Tie Rod Ends are a 30 min. DIY job. Look HERE.
You should be able to get the clutch done for ~ $1200 with a Stage I. If you plan on doing a serious upgrade, like more than a K04, then you might want to get a stage II or III. It's a big job though, so unless you want to attempt to DIY, you're gonna be paying. Read about it HERE if you're curious.
I hear timing belt is a somewhat easy DIY but if you don't feel comfortable, definitely don't take it to the dealership. $650 sounds about right.
One day people will learn to NEVER go to the dealership if they have any financial sense.
