Default Just Got Insured

Timing belt has been done at 68000 miles on my 2003 A4 1.8T Quattro Sports Package.

The mechanic listed these problem spots that I may need to look at soon:

Engine mounts (both sides)
Right Front Axle/Driveshaft/CV Boot

I've already noticed my cv boot ripped, but he told me to replace the whole drive shaft. Is that really needed?

He quoted me 1200 for all of this to be done. Is that a high quote for my car? I have searched the forums, but how hard is it to do the WHOLE driveshaft and cv boot DIY?

Thanks guys for the input, I'll post some pics of my car when time permits.

You NEVER have to replace the cv axle on our cars, un-less you ramed it into a ditch there is no need to replace the cv axle. You just need the boot repair kit, check out www.ecstuning.com for the repair kit, then have a shop install it for around 2 hours of labor.
Shouldn't exceed $300

Engine mounts on a 1.8T is do-able with basic hand tools and a jack, if you know what your doing of course.

Engine mounts, I've searched the internet, no DIY.....

So youre saying that what he said (right axle assembly) is the same as if he were saying right cv axle?

So I probably dont have to replace correct?

Thanks for all your help by the way. Much appreciated.

The factory axle costs $900 so a $1200 repair bill would mean he wants to replace the entire axle, which makes him a moron.
The factory cv repair boot costs $75 + the labor to put it in, which would be around $350 at the dealer.
So yes he wants to replace the entire axle.

What if a moron driver lets a torn cv boot go for to long. Than water and dirt enter the cv joint and thus distroying the joint. End result, you need a joint or axle. But I'm a mechanic, and I haven't accually seen his joint, so I don't know, the boot kit will probibly take care of it.
