Another way would be to install a boost guage, and if the car is boosting higher than stock levels, you'll know for certain the car is chipped. Heck, anyone with a turbo should have a boost guage, its just plain fun to look at.
Thanks acetrebo

I was thinking the same thing on the way home from work, that'd be a great way to tell if it is stock or modded. Also, could I look at the DV to see if it has been replaced or will any aftermarket ones look much like the stock?

Also, I have seen some booster gauges mounted in the A/C vent but I think I may prefer a pillar mount or something not to noticeable. Can anyone point me in the direction of a simple to install and clean looking install for a booster gauge?

It depends. The stock DV is plastic, as is the upgraded 710N. If you look behind the passenger headlight, and see an aluminum DV, then it's definitely upgraded. A good sign that the car is probably chipped. If the DV is plastic, it's hard to say, without either comparing it to a stock A4, or, like acetrebo said, hook up a boost gauge, and it will tell you how much you're boosting.

When it comes to cleaning the K&N, get yourself an inexpensive paper filter and run that if you are concerned with downtime. Obviously save it for the next cleaning. Follow the K&N directions however definately go conservative with the oil application, it won't evaporate slowly just move "down" the induction line, collect dust, subsequently creating drag.
