I've had my 96 A4 2.8Q for exactly a month today. So far, I am really enjoying it. Would I benefit from a K&N air filter? How much HP would it add to the stock 172? Thanks alot!

 

On a 2.8 you MAY see 5hp with the filter and modfied airbox in tech forum. You would be better off getting an intake where you will gain more like 10hp.

 

So I should probably add that and a chip...btw, who installs chips?

 

No they dont make a chip for that engine, talk to jesty about mods for it. I Know of exhaust,intake,performance throttle body, that will give ya a nice boost.Talk to jesty he will know more.

 

i've heard that a modified airbox is not really good because the stock airbox gets cold air from outside, while the modified ones draw air from the engine bay which is (usually) much warmer than the outside, which causes the engine to run hotter causing faster wear on you shyte. and also cold air is better powerwise too isn't it?

i don't want to be giving out bogus info, so if anyone has any contradicting views on what i said, please speak up. like i said, i'm hardly an audi expert......yet.

 

The 12 valve engines airbox is not the restriction. The restriction is within the MAF housing and the Throttle body. Adding a panel filter or removing the box for a cone filter will give you barely any extra HP.
