Default k03 power.

Okay. i saw a poast where a guy had a dyno of a b5 k03 pulling 210 whp. I have a 01 1.8 tqm with apr chip borla catback and modded airbox. i assume ill only run maby 160-170 whp. any idea how i could get 210?? that seams a lot for this wee little turbo.

I dunno. it could be either. either way, wuattro loses about 21% and FWD generally loses abotu 14%.

with FWD, that equates to abotu 250 crank hp. with AWD, that equates to about 265 whp.

even if it is FWD, that would still make about 200 whp on a k03.
any idea how i could do that. he was also running 91 oct...so...

i didn't think a k03 could get 210 whp. crank defintely. guy musta had some serious tuning. you could add a test pipe for a couple extra horses, but really you should just get a k04. really cheap and pretty respectable power

yes its possible to get that many ponies out of a ko3. And yes its been done. the guy was in one of the tuner magazines last year. he had a blue a4 . he might be on the zine actually. I dont know what he had done, but it was bad *** tuning.

Back from the dead!

I have a 1998.5 1.8T Quattro Manual, DBW which has a new Ko3 turbo in it(It was just installed before I bought the car), that I would like to abuse before replacing....as far as the motor goes I am planning on going GIAC, fmic, catbackexhaust, tip, n75 race valve, mbc, possibly a hfc...I already have a dv...

what supporting mods would you need to get say...180whp w a Ko3? (for a B5)

the obvious would be...some 1.3-2 bar monster file (where would I find a reliable monster file/chip?(is there a big injector file for a b5?)), hfc/downpipe, 2.75" custom exhaust, DV, N75 race valve, MBC, TurboInletPipe, larger injectors (maybe from the TT), larger MAF sensor (also from TT?), and an Fpr to match the tune (possibly adjustable?)....maybe a ported turbo exhaust manifold?

firstly I do not want to tear into the motor at all if I can help it, i.e. port/polish, etc. and another thing I don't think I can handle is water/meth injection...I just wouldn't be comfortable with the prospect of possibly hydrolocking (I know it is "safe" for everyone else, I have a friend w an evo who has it, but I don't think it's for me)....

I would like to eventually make my was to a T-28, but I would like to beat on my stocker before i take on the BT project. also, will a t28 run on the GIAC PC-16 file, or even one of the T25's?...

I would like to eventually push about 220-250 to the wheels and would prefer to go with a garrett turbo rather than a KKK....

alright, sorry for grave diggin, but I am really curious to know what I have overlooked....

any and all input will be appreciated!

fwd your looking at 200-210whp without w/m, race gasor straining the turbo
awd your looking at 180-190whp without w/m, race gasor straining the turbo

This is not a hp turbo, it is a tq turbo. the only way your going to get more hp out of the car is by increasing timing with race gas and/or w/m or find a way to move the tq spike out past 3k since it peaks before 2.5k. Only way i can see doing that is with a custom equal length turbo manifold or short runner intake manifold= totally not worth it.

K0-whatever = TQ NOT HP

^^ thank you cincy, good info, pretty much what I figured... The two other questions I had were

1- witht hte PC-16 chip, would I be able to safely run a T25 or T28, I think I read that a T-28 is comprable to a Ko4? (except the T28 would spool faster?)

2- would anyone happen to know if GIAC has Monster file for the K03? (or any other tuner I guess, mainly just looking for a link or a phone #)

alright, thanks again!

The ko4 is the same size as a newer ko3, aka ko3s. The t-25/28 are OLD DSM turbos and journal bearing. The gt28r is what most people use now. The gt25r is rated to ~275hp the gt28r is rated to ~315 and the gt28rs is rated to 350hp, while the ko4 is rated to 225hp. The ko4 has no lag and the t28 or gt28r will both spool jsut after 3k. So no, the sw wont be idle, plus you should be using atleast 380cc injector for the 28r and 440cc for and rs
