Would k03 with about 2-3mm of shaft play cause noise? The reason I'm asking is I got someknocks, sounds like it's coming from the bottom end but not sure. I'm in the process of pulling the engine and found this.

 

It could. You might wanna toss that turbo before a fin breaks off and goes into the motor.

do you have a boost gauge, is there any boost?

 

well I couldn't tell if I had boost (no gauge). I had taken apart to get the engine out (because of the knocking) and checked the shaft mid way through. The motor did run, not sure how good cause I had to baby it to drive it home before the pull process.
If oil was not present in the engine, what do you think would go first? (cause knocking).

 

No oil would kill the turbo (extremly fast) and then the piston rings which would then in turn destroy the crank

 

Its defa knock. I hope it is something not serious though. like a loose oil pickup or something.

PS- off topic but If I get a k03s from an s4 will it bolt up to stock on my 1.8t?

and what does the snub mount look like? Mine does not look right. the PO cut it out.
