I just replaced a clutch on my brothers 99.5 A4 1.8t, and am trying to get the car ready for sale. Just about a year ago he needed a new turbo and the shop put a K04 in with no other mods. From my searching here on the forums it seems like it needs some supporting mods. Will using colder plugs help? Will this increase the resale with the K04 on it? The car is not on the road yet but I just want to be sure it will run 100%. Thanks for any info you can provide.

 

no mods do not increase the value of a car, it'll decrease it more likely but there's always a but, if u can find sum1 who wants to buy a modded car for a good price then ur set to go.

 

first, did you repalce the clutch with stock or did you go a higher performance clutch? a new stock clutch will jsut handle the power. but you wont be able to launch at anything above abotu 3k rpm adn your shifts wont be too crisp.

for the k04 to work well with the car, you will need new tuning (an ecu upgrade) form GIAC. if you go with the base ecu tuning, you will be about fine. if you go with teh mroe agressive ecu tune (pc-16 file) you will need new injectore. either way, you will need a new exaust system (i reccoment Borla ut it is a bit pricey at around $700). with the bast k04 programming for the ecu, you could survive with stock exaust but it isnt recommended. the k04 isnt the brightest upgrade for these cars, but since its there, might as well take advantage of it.

for resale, it depends on how you sell it. if you sell it to a average used car dealer, it will be around the same, maby a bit more. if you sell it without no middleman (adds, craigslist.com) you could cop out with an extra few hundred on the deal. i highly recommend selling person to person though. car dealers are like michael jackson. gay and undecided.

I forgot to mention a Labree high flow cat. I know not a big difference but better then the stocker. How about the plugs? And with the stock chip will it run rich/lean or? Wouldn't the MAF measure the airflow and adjust accordingly?

 

well, your HF cat makes a differnece. but it is much mroe noticeable with full exaust.

sparks will be fine.

with the stock chip, one would assume that the MAF and the O2 sensor in the cat would be able to adjust for it btu you ahve to remember, the ECU is used to making changes to the K03 for A/F ratio, not a k04. that said, it will work, but it will also run a little off (lean i believe) with the k04.

ALL IN ALL. get an ecu. A) you will have MUCH more fun, B) your nice little AUDI engine will run better

AudiCross why do you state that the k04 isn't the brightest upgrade? What is your suggestion, mine is all stock now however I am planning on doing quite a bit of upgrading.

 

Depends on how deep your pockets are, and how much power you want.

 

because its not that much more power than a k03, and practically no more power than a k03s. might as well spend a bit extra and run a gtrs elim.

 

when you come to realize it's hard/nearly impossible to get your moneys worth for upgrades.. i'll trade you my stock cat for your high flow cat with some cash. and maybe some of your other upgrades. you'll most likely make more money that way, but not much.

when i sell my car, if i sell it, i will try trading (+cash) a lot of my aftermarket parts on here).. it'll give people a good deal, and make me a little more money off the car. for example, my ecu, i'd trade someone for their ecu and maybe $300 for it. my custom exhaust, i'd let go for their stock exhaust and maybe $150

unless of course I can find someone who'd by my car with mods for a reasonable price, but thats hard.

 

but if you're strapped for cash and need reliability.. you can't lose with a k04. 270chp, reliable and a nice daily driver. thats what I'm going for anyway.. who knows though, i may go with the gtrs, but I'm not looking for a monster, just something quick, reliable and not expansive. it's rare to have all three, but thats what the k04 offers... though, whats quick enough for me, might not be for someone else.

how much extra would it be for a gtrs + all the supporting mods compared to a k04 with all the supporting mods?
