Default K04 software on K03 Tubro???

Hey,
As you might have seen A4Rollin is selling his GIAC chipped ecu. I am interester.. However I do have a question.

"The chip is for a 97'-99.5' A4. I had a FWD so im not sure if it matters if its FWD or quattro."

I have the Quattro and mine is an automatic. Does that matter?

Also the chip is for a K04 turbo and I only have the K03 right now but I am planning on getting the K04 soon. What would happen if I got the K04 chip and ran it with the K03 turbo? Thanks!!!

Josh

quattro vs FWD doesn't matter, but manual and auto chips aren't interchangable unless you recode the chip with a vagcom, but even then sometimes the coding will not stick and you will have problems.

you mean recode the ECU? I emailed GIAC and APR about this question. Both answered that they have different programs and they are not interchangable. This might just be them trying to get more money, but I wasn't going to risk it.

like you change the ECU's softcoding to match your cars softcoding and when you restart your car it goes back to its original coding. "the coding won't stick"

As for the K03 on K04 programing - you would see the full potential of your K03 - it would also be hard on things, also might be running rich since the new ECU programing is expecting the turbo to be using more air.

And there is no other way to change that? That sucks.

Still what about the K03 on the K04 software? Anything?

^^ya wut he just said. but i dunno bout the k03/k04 programming thing. the basic k04 file only has you running at ~14psi, so you could probably get away with it for a little while. some people run k04's on stock k03 programming for a little while so it should work the other way around i think. just keep in mind the programming wasn't written for your turbo and might mess things up. willing to take the risk?
