k04 upgrade options? (the turbo itself)
I am looking for some more power from my car a little down the road and im pretty settled on a k04 turbo upgrade. my only concearn is that its just a little less potent than i would like. so my question is this;
is there anything that can be improved upon before installing the turbo? i mean can i send the turbo out to get converted to ball bearing(like some t3/t4 guys do), or can i get the housing ported out a bit? how bout getting the rotor clipped or a different wheel alltogether? any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appriciated. thanks

I think your pretty much better off with just getting a k04 or somthing bigger, doing any work to the stock k03 is pretty pointless fothe gains you will get from it
um....badluck, he's talking about the ko4 itself...not the ko3. lol. im sorry buddy, im sure somebody will know this answer.
you could get the pc-16 ( 265hp 300ft lb ) file which basically maxes out the ko4, and if you get a turbo inlet pipe that will surely get you some extra juice.

Yes, you could do all that work to a k04.. is it worth it.. I dont think so.
I dont think you could do a ball bearing swap though...
either way the cost in doing that, it would just be better off getting a higher flowing turbo.
A good BT setup on the cheap for DBC is the t3/4.
If you want a stock look, and/or location, then go with an elim from atpturbo. www.atpturbo.com
You can get your tuning elsewhere instead of Mika from ATP since its soooo pansy. There new race programs in spring may be better.. but who knowS!

u could look for the E05 turbo, its a k04 housing with a digfferent comprosser, its supposed to make a little more power but i dought its worth the price over a regular k04
Alright guys, I know everyone says the mika software sucks and that it is pansy....and what not, but what exactly are you saying. It is what I currently have, and I havent driven another a4 with the same setup so I cant tell a difference from different tuning, but I dont mind mine. What I am asking is do you mean the software isn't taking full advantage of the power it could be making, and running a little richer than it needs too, or just that it doesnt run smoothly. I always hear people say it sucks, and not that Im doubting them b/c other ppl have a lot more experience than me, but I am just curious what that means.
Thanks.
Thanks.
From what I head read/researched the test files they use on their dynos are inflated and use a different file from what they give you. The street software is very conservative and doesnt take full advantage of the hardware there are using.
I dont know what PSI they run , but Im sure you could run more with better timings.
The only reason you like yours is that you havent been in a truely tuned GT28RS setup. if you have you would be left wanting.

So my setup is technically 'safer'? If that is true, then that is better for me. I dont want to push the limits too much, I dont think I could afford another motor right now.
