Default Keyless Entry Problems?

I only got one key and I'm thinking of getting a another key with the keyless entry remote (the folding key). At the dealership just ordering a new key would cost $160 and programming the remote is $55. I went on ebay and saw a few remotes with the uncut key for around $70 and they say it comes with the programming instructions, "Just Take to your local locksmith or dealer to have the key cut to your car". My concern is...is it possible to get your keys cut at a locksmith? I thought you can only special order (dealership) your keys. Does anyone have any experiences buying one of these "OE equipment" key fobs from ebay or another source, and do they actually work? Or should I just go the dealership and get it done right while having my wallet raped.

Nah i've never heard of a locksmith cutting an Audi key. My dealership cuts keys for $5. I've bought several off ebay and they all worked just fine.

dealers are very picky. I was declined to get a GENUINE VAG key blade cut at every Audi dealership around me. I ended up getting the key cut for free at a VW dealership. They were so cool about it, but the parts reps at Audi wouldn't budge and said if I wanted keyless I had to special order with my VIN for $180 plus cost to program. So call around the dealerships and don't forget VWs use the same keys.

So those uncut keys from ebay DO actually work, and I have to get them cut at a dealership? I'm just trying to figure out where and how to get this done with the least amount of money.

Yeah you should be fine then with the three button remotes on Ebay (lock, unlock, panic).
