Default knocking noise

hi...i have a 2006 a4 2.0T with 980 miles on it...sweet ride ... gotta luv turbo

heard this for the first time today...after parking the car all night, i started driving...about 1/2 a mile, while stopped at a light, i heard a knocking noise...sounded like it was coming from the area around the front passenger vent...heard this sound only 2 times when I stopped at 2 different lights...each time, there would be about 4 knocks...then i didn't hear it again...

any comments would be appreciated...

thanks

sounds like it's coming from the dash board area...not from the engine area...maybe from inside the vent? at first i thought it was my key chain tapping against the dash board...

does that help any?

thanks...

I thought there was some weird (obnoxious ) thing on the new A4s that purposely made a noise like that, has to do with the brakes.

Something engaging... I think who ever spoke of it said it was in the owners manual, check there first. Look under brakes maybe. It was just on the forum like 2 weeks ago and i remembered thinking that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard of, making a cra purposely sound broken.... then I thought of all the dang noise my Audi makes and that was the end of that thought.

thanks....well, i'm not sure what to say...the sound seems to be coming from around the front passenger vent...the sound was more of a tapping noise...

i just drove the car again and didn't hear the sound...

after 900 miles, that time was the first time i heard the sound...then again, yesterday was the first time i really revved the car hard after the dealer said that i had broken in the engine and needed to give the car more gas (he could tell i had been driving it gently to break it in by the way the gears shifted)...up until yesterday, i had not driven faster than 75 mph and had not driven higher than 2500 rpm...

then today, i heard this tapping noise from area around the front passenger vent... for a total of 5-10 seconds (2 times at 2 different lights, one right after another)...maybe had something to do with the engine warming up?

at this point, i'm beginning to think it might have come for another car...not sure...

thanks...any other comments would be appreciated...

Hmm well the 2.0TFSI engine is always going to make a "tapping" noice. It almost sounds like a diesel engine. But the sound you describe isn't quite normal cause it's not consistant. I'd just mention it to your service advisor.

well, i drove it again today, after parking it all night...no noise...

hmm...not sure...yesterday was the 1st time i heard the noise (new 2006 A4 with 950 miles)...

either it was from another car...or the car was "settling" after i had revved it past 300 rpm and over 75 mph since purchasing the car (the dealer told me yesterday to rev the car harder and said i had worked in the car enough and driven it "too" gently)...

any other suggestions? the sound was like someone knocking on the dash board...so it was more like a tap...

thanks...

I had a knocking (ticking) noise coming from my b6 from the front far left vent... i took it to dealer (as it was under warranty) and it turned out to be that my bucket (under the seat) was loose. It sounds funny that the bucket made the noise seem like it was coming from the vent. I personally thought it was something with the engine or soo..

Might sound dumb, but check around the interior (seats, buckets, etc.) and see if there is anything loose.

ok...i heard it again today...2nd time in 1000 miles...

by way of review, i have a new 2006 a4 2.0...the first time i heard this noise was at 970 miles...that first time, i heard it twice...i hit 2 red lights, and each time i stopped, i heard this tapping sound for about 5 seconds each time...sounds like it's coming from the front vents...also sounds like my key chain tapping against the dash...

first time i heard the noise, it sounded like it was coming from the front passenger vent...then today, it sounded like it was coming from the center vent...

since i have dual climate control, is it possible that the vents are automatically changing direction to adjust the dual climate zones? specifically, if all of the vents are aimed at the driver, will the passenger side vents adjust/move to the passenger side to compensate?

otherwise, sah-weet ride!
