Default Light problems--not bulbs

2002 Audi A4 Quattro

I just wanted to see if anyone else had this problem. Basically, the warning light came on for the tail light being inop. I checked and it looked as if a bulb wasn't working. However, the warning light didn't come on the next time I turned on the lights and the bulb worked. Sometimes the light comes on and sometimes it doesn't. The other day, I got two beeps...one for the tail light and one for the passenger front projector bulb (both not working when checked). Then I turned on the lights a little later and no warnings and all lights work! I took it to the dealership to get checked out and they said it had a couple of connections that needed to be cleaned (old age). It cost $107 to clean them and put everything back together. Does this seem reasonable and has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks,
John

It's definitely money wasted....it should be covered under warranty though. There's no reason for the connections to get dirty like that. I wouldn't consider it routinee maintenance that is.

I'm having the exact same problem on my 2002 Quattro. Which connectors did they clean? Where were they located?

It was something that should have been done under warranty in my opinion. I think they considered it wear and tear or something like that. I didn't have the time to argue. I'm just hoping this problem doesn't keep happening. The weird part is that both lights started malfunctioning in close proximity to each other, making me think it was something other than connectors. However, I had to deploy a day after I got the car fixed, so I haven't had a chance to see if the problem was going to re-occur.

The wife was driving the car and the same problem came back again....so much for $100 to clean some connectors. This is a bigger problem that's waiting to unleash itself.
