FYI: My car has a K04 running without the software for about 4 months now..
Occasionally my car will refuse to start and just hang.. and when I finally do get it to start, the EPC light is always on and the turbo is disabled. Once this happens i can shut the car off and turn it back on with no problems and the EPC light off.. Whats going on?

 

You're boosting more than the ECU is calling for since it isn't programmed for the K04. The overboost sends it in to limp mode. Limp mode does go away when car is shut off until next time requested vs. actual boost occurs (block 115 on VAG COM).

Ok.. well now im stalling at idle pretty frequently and i jus got a CEL today .. goin to mechanic tomorrow .. any guesses as to whats going on or is the K04 just screwing with the ECU?

 

EPC light isn't from overboost. Rather it usually is due to a failure of the connections between the electric gas pedal, the ECU and the throttle body.

 

3 codes popped up .. all pointing to bad rpm sensor.. hopefully thats all

 

Limp Mode huh...sounds like a personal prob to me..

Someone had a similar problem, read the followup just yesterday - it was the engine rpm sensor.
